Medet Höyüğü (Apollonia Salbake)

A mound and the city of Apollonia in Medet village on the Tavas plain, bearing uninterrupted traces from the Bronze Age to the Turkish period.
Its story
Medet Höyüğü (Medet Mound) is in Medet village, 7 km southwest of Tavas, and is the oldest known settlement in the area. The mound bears traces ranging from the Early Bronze Age to the Hittite, Phrygian, Persian, Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine periods. The city, which took the name Apollonia Salbake in the Hellenistic era, stood at the crossroads of routes between Caria, Lycia and Phrygia. Inscribed stones from the Roman period can be seen in the courtyard of the village mosque; the village is also known for its terracotta products.
