Pamukkale, Denizli
A Seljuk caravanserai with a white stone facade on the Denizli-Afyonkarahisar road, completed in 1253-1254.
Its story
Akhan is one of the first staging posts on the caravan route from Denizli to Afyonkarahisar. According to its inscription, its covered section was completed in 1253 and its courtyard in 1254 by Governor Seyfettin Karasungur. Named for its white (ak) stones, the building reflects the classic Seljuk han plan with a courtyard and a covered section. It has been nominated for UNESCO World Heritage together with the Seljuk caravanserais on the Denizli-Doğubayazıt route.
