Its story
Dardanos was an ancient city of the Troad built on a hill on the shore of the Strait, about 12 kilometers from Çanakkale city center. The city's location has been firmly identified by an inscription bearing its name; it is known to have been one of the first cities in the Troad to mint coins. In 85 BC the peace between the Roman commander Sulla and Mithridates VI, king of Pontus, was signed here. In 1959 a rescue excavation on the forested hill within the bounds of Çınarlı village opened a tumulus that yielded rich finds. The remains to be seen today are limited; it offers a quiet history stop with a view of the Strait.
