Yeşil Türbe (Green Tomb)
Yıldırım, Bursa
Çelebi Mehmed's tomb, a symbol of Bursa with its octagonal body clad in turquoise tiles.
Its story
Built after Çelebi Mehmed's death in 1421 on the hill opposite the Yeşil Mosque, the tomb is an octagonal building whose exterior is entirely clad in tiles. Most of the exterior tiles seen today were renewed in repairs after the 1855 earthquake. Inside, the sultan's tiled cenotaph, the mihrab and the carved walnut door are the most valuable pieces of the original decoration. The tomb is instantly recognizable in the city's skyline by its green color. The terrace in front of it offers a lovely view over the Bursa plain.
