Irgandı Bridge
Osmangazi, Bursa
A bridge over the Gökdere lined with shops on both sides, one of the few bazaar bridges in the world.
Its story
Irgandı Bridge was commissioned over the Gökdere in 1442 by Hoca Muslihiddin, son of the merchant Hoca Ali Bey. The bridge had facing shops and a small masjid on it; this makes it one of the rare examples of bazaar bridges. Badly damaged in the 1855 earthquake and during the War of Independence, the bridge was rebuilt in 2004 according to its original plan. Today its shops sell handicrafts. It lies on the way when walking from the Yeşil Mosque to the hans district.
