History and archaeology / Han and caravanserai
Susuz Han
Bucak, Burdur
A Seljuk caravanserai built in the reign of Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II, with a geometrically decorated portal.
Its story
Susuz Han is in Susuz village, on the Seljuk caravan route linking Antalya to inland Anatolia. It was built in the reign of Sultan Gıyaseddin Keyhüsrev II (1237–1246). The geometric and floral stone decoration on its portal is an outstanding example of 13th-century Anatolian Seljuk stonework. Excavations yielded many finds, from Byzantine coins to Ottoman-era horseshoes. Together with İncir Han in Bucak, it can form a short two-caravanserai route.
