Its story
The mosque, in the Eskişehir area north of the Kiğı district center, known as the old Armenian quarter, appears in foundation records as the Cami-i Kebir; it is popularly known as the Pilten Bey or Balaban Bey Mosque. The inscription above the entrance gives its construction date as 1402; the mosque is reported to contain a grave associated with Pir Ali Bey, one of the Akkoyunlu beys. Built of cut stone at the corners and rubble stone elsewhere, the building has horseshoe-arched windows; the mihrab in the wooden-ceilinged interior is decorated with red tulip motifs incised on a green ground. The single-balcony minaret at the northwest corner is of cut stone. The mosque was repaired many times from the 18th century to 2018; gravestones with Ottoman inscriptions can be seen in its courtyard and in the cemetery to the west.
