Its story
On 24 May 1993, unarmed soldiers who had set out from Malatya in civilian buses to join their units lost their lives in an attack carried out by the PKK on the Elazığ–Bingöl highway. In memory of the 33 soldiers who died in the attack, a monument was built on a hill called Anıttepe, about 13 km from central Bingöl. A large Turkish flag flies from a 33-meter pole erected in 2007, symbolizing the 33 martyrs; the memorial tomb bearing representative images of the soldiers was opened to visitors on 24 May 2012.
