Orhan Gazi Mosque (Bilecik)
Merkez, Bilecik
A mosque in Bilecik's old bazaar dating from the reign of Orhan Gazi, next to the tomb of Şeyh Edebali.
Its story
Orhan Gazi Mosque is one of the early-period buildings believed to have been built in the 14th century, shortly after Bilecik passed to the Ottomans. The square-plan, single-domed mosque shares the same area as the Şeyh Edebali Tomb within the city's historic fabric. The building was damaged by fires and wars over the centuries and was repaired, notably after the destruction of the War of Independence. The restored Bilecik houses around it reflect the city's old neighborhood fabric. It can serve as the central point of a visit to Bilecik.
