Its story
The Konursu Ulu Mosque is in the village of Konursu, about 15 km from central Bayburt. According to news reports, it was built in 1812 by fitting wooden pieces into one another without using nails or glue, and is therefore called the 'nail-free mosque'. The square-plan building, set on sloping ground, has four wooden posts and a wooden ceiling. The ceiling, made with the dovetail technique, and the walnut gallery, minbar and preaching chair are fine examples of the woodworking tradition carried from Central Asia to Anatolia. The building has been restored and continues to be used for worship by the villagers. The village also has historic fountains.
