Its story
The Tomb of Dede Korkut is at the entrance to the village of Masat (Yıldırım), about 39 km from Bayburt. The kümbet, which local people call 'Ali Baba' or 'Büyük Baba' (Great Father), was introduced with photographs by Orhan Şaik Gökyay in his book Dede Korkut Hikâyeleri (The Tales of Dede Korkut) published in 1986, in which he suggested that it belonged to Dede Korkut. The date of the building is not certain. Every year in July Bayburt holds the International Dede Korkut Culture and Art Festival; the festival traditionally begins with a visit to the tomb. After the heritage of the Book of Dede Korkut was added to UNESCO's list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the number of visitors coming to the village increased.
