Its story
Daskyleion stands on a mound overlooking Kuş Gölü (Lake Kuş) in the Ergili neighborhood of Bandırma. It is said to take its name from Daskylos, father of the Lydian king Gyges; after 547 BC it became the seat of the Persian Empire's satrapy of Hellespontine Phrygia. Rediscovered in 1952, the city has been excavated to reveal palace buildings, sanctuaries and Persian-period funerary stelae with reliefs. The mound offers a wide view of Kuş Gölü and the surrounding plain.
