Kadıkalesi (Anaia)
Kuşadası, Aydın
A medieval castle on the site of ancient Anaia, south of the Bay of Kuşadası.
Its story
Kadıkalesi is on the southern shore of the bay, about 8 km from central Kuşadası. The castle was built over the ancient Ionian settlement of Anaia. The walls, towers and church remains of the settlement, an important harbor and episcopal see in the Byzantine period, are being uncovered by excavations. From the hill near the shore you can look out over the bay toward Samos (Sisam).
