Güvercinada Castle
Kuşadası, Aydın
The Ottoman castle on a small island linked to the mainland by a causeway, which gave Kuşadası its name.
Its story
Güvercinada (Pigeon Island) is a small island right next to Kuşadası harbor, linked to the shore by a stone causeway. The castle on the island is the Ottoman-era defensive structure that gave the town its name and was used to protect the coast against pirates. Inside the walls are walking paths and small gardens. The causeway from the shore to the island is one of the town's favorite walks, especially at sunset.
