Didim, Aydın
One of the greatest oracle centers of the ancient world; the Temple of Apollo in Didim with its giant columns and Medusa head.
Its story
Didyma was a famous oracle center dedicated to Apollo, linked to Miletus by a sacred way. Construction of the giant temple seen today began in the Hellenistic period, but the work, which went on for centuries, was never completed. The columns reaching about 20 meters in height, the sacred inner court (adyton) and the famous Medusa head relief attract the most attention from visitors. The temple stands in the middle of the Didim town center.
