A mosque and complex with Ottoman Baroque decoration, commissioned by the Cihanoğulları family in 1756.
Its story
Cihanoğlu Mosque was commissioned in 1756 by Abdülaziz Efendi of the Cihanoğulları family, influential around Aydın, Koçarlı and Nazilli. The complex of mosque, madrasa, sebil and fountain is regarded as one of the finest examples of the Ottoman Baroque style in western Anatolia. Damaged during World War I and the years of occupation, the building underwent extensive restorations in 1950, 1967 and 2010. It is in the city center, near the historic bazaar.
