Its story
Only the main church of the Doliskana Monastery has survived. The Georgian inscription on the south facade and the donor portrait on the dome drum show that the building was constructed or repaired in the mid-10th century, under King Sumbat I, by the architect Gabriel. Measuring about 20x13 meters externally, the church has a domed free-cross plan. Among the reliefs on the facades, a king holding a model of the church in both hands, facing angels and a human mask stand out. When the building was converted into a mosque in the 16th century, the frescoes on the interior walls were whitewashed over; traces can still be made out in places. It is reached by a village road branching off the Artvin–Şavşat road near the Berta bridge.
