Simena (Kaleköy)
Demre, Antalya
A village opposite Kekova, reached only by sea or footpath, with its hilltop castle and Lycian sarcophagi submerged in the sea.
Its story
Simena, known today as Kaleköy, is an ancient Lycian settlement between Kaş and Demre. The city is thought to have been founded in the early 4th century BC. The village sits in the middle of a necropolis partly under the sea; from the castle on the hill, Kekova Island and the sunken city remains can be seen. The village is reached from Üçağız by boat or on foot.
