Patara is near Gelemiş village, close to Kalkan, and served as the capital of the Lycian League. The assembly building where the League's meetings were held stands out as one of the early examples of representative government. Ancient writers mention the city as an important sanctuary of Apollo. According to sources, St. Nicholas was born here around 270. The theater, street and lighthouse remains among the dunes and the Delikkemer aqueduct can be visited.
