Ahi Mesut Tomb
Etimesgut, Ankara
The tomb in Bağlıca of Ahi Mesud, one of Ankara's Ahis, who gave his name to the Etimesgut district.
Its story
The tomb belongs to Ahi Mesud, one of the Ahi leaders who lived in Ankara around the 14th–15th centuries. Ahi Mesud, thought to have been born in Kırşehir and to have moved to Ankara, is believed to have founded a zaviye (dervish lodge) bearing his name in a village within today's Bağlıca. Until the Republic the area was known as 'Ahi Mesud Nahiyesi' (subdistrict); the model village founded here in 1928 was popularly called 'Etimesut', and in 1937 the name officially became Etimesgut. The tomb stands beside Bağlıca Köyü Avenue.
