Safety warning
Its story
Also known as the Ozancık Underground City, Ersele is a large underground settlement carved into volcanic tuff, begun in the Eastern Roman period. Surveys have identified seven entrances. Inside, storage rooms, water channels, rock tombs and special rooms thought to have been used for cheese and wine production have been identified; the settlement appears to have been in use until recent times. Together with nearby Ersele Höyük (mound), it shows the region's long history of settlement. Up-to-date information on visitor facilities and opening hours is limited.
