Safety warning
Its story
The church consists of four sections carved into a terrace on the valley slope; the word 'pürenli' in its name refers to the surrounding scrub. Its frescoes are dated between the early 10th and the 12th century. Scenes such as the Prophecy of the Prophets, Mary with bishops, the Annunciation, the Visitation and the Adoration of the Shepherds depict the childhood of Christ and the Gospel narrative. There are graves in the narthex floor, and the scraped-off faces of some figures are traces of iconoclastic damage.
