A cross-plan rock church at the foot of the Ihlara stairs, also called Daniel Pantonassa after its depiction of Saint Daniel among the lions.

Its story
The church is one of the first buildings you reach in the upper part of the valley as you descend the stairs from the main entrance. Because its original entrance lies buried, visitors now enter through an opening on the apse side. The scene of Daniel among the Lions opposite the entrance gave the church its second name; the dome shows the Ascension of Christ, and the walls show Gospel scenes such as the Annunciation, the Nativity and the Baptism. Although some of the frescoes are damaged, their vivid red and blue tones can still be made out.
