Kocatepe Atatürk Monument

The bronze Atatürk monument on 1874 m Kocatepe, from where the Great Offensive was directed on August 26, 1922.
Its story
Kocatepe is a 1874 m hill, a further 8 km uphill from the town of Kocatepe (Büyükkalecik), about 20 km south of Afyonkarahisar. Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal Paşa launched and directed the Great Offensive from here on the morning of August 26, 1922. The bronze Atatürk monument of about 4 tons, erected in 1953, is surrounded by marble inscriptions with floral reliefs. It is in the Kocatepe section of Başkomutan Historical National Park; commemoration ceremonies are held here every year on the morning of August 26.
