Its story
The Zonguldak Mining Museum was founded to preserve the city's hard-coal mining culture and opened on 9 December 2016. The museum, in the Çınartepe neighborhood, is beside the Baştarla Training Mine, used by TTK (the Turkish Hard Coal Authority) since 1965 to train miners. This coal gallery, about 800 meters long, is toured by visitors as the 'Coal Experience Mine'. The museum building explains the formation of coal, the history of mining, occupational safety and the relationship between the city and coal; in the garden there are mining machines and the Mining Martyrs Monument. In 2022 the museum was included in the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH).
