Its story
To protect the lineage of the Van cat, known for its white, silky fur, its love of water and its ability to have eyes of two different colors, Van Yüzüncü Yıl University founded the Van Cat Research Center in 1992; the breed was officially registered in 2006. In the section known as the 'Cat Villa' on the Zeve Campus, the cats are cared for indoors and outdoors; visitors can see the cats up close and pet them within certain rules. Van cats' eyes fall into three groups: both blue, both amber, or one blue and one amber. The center receives tens of thousands of visitors every year and is one of the city's most beloved stops; an appointment is requested for school and institutional groups.
