Its story
The museum building was built as military barracks between 1935 and 1937; it was used for this purpose until 1949 and in the following decades as civil servants' housing. Registered as an example of Early Republican architecture, the building was allocated as a museum in 2015, restored, and opened to visitors on 24 December 2020. The building, with about 5,800 m² of indoor space, is set around a large courtyard that can also be used for events. In six halls, archaeology and coins, ethnography, traditional agriculture and flora-fauna, faith culture, stone works and Early Republican works are displayed with information texts, images and re-creations. GoTürkiye recommends the museum as a must-see stop in the city and notes that the visit may take a few hours.
