Its story
Lake Sera formed in the Derecik Valley in Akçaabat on 21 February 1950, when large rock masses broke away from the slopes after heavy rain and blocked the valley floor; local people witnessed the lake filling within a few weeks. It takes its name from Sera, the old name of Yıldızlı. As the lake shrank over time with alluvium carried into it, check dams were built in the upper reaches and its surroundings were landscaped. The area was declared a nature park in 2010. The walking path around the lake, picnic areas and calm water surface make it ideal for a day nature break close to the city.
