Its story
The Altındere Valley National Park is in the Eastern Black Sea Mountains, within the boundaries of the Maçka district, and Sümela Monastery is located within this park. The valley's dominant vegetation is Oriental spruce; fir, Scots pine, chestnut, oak, linden, hornbeam and rhododendron are also found. The national park is one of Trabzon's most visited protected areas. Besides Sümela, visitors can see the Aya Varvara Church, go hiking along the Meryem Ana Deresi (Meryem Ana Stream) and picnic in day-use areas. Misty forests and waterfalls are the valley's characteristic sights.
