Sulusokak and Bey Sokağı
Merkez, Tokat
Tokat's old city center: the historic Sulusokak, lined with the Yağıbasan Madrasa, the Ali Tûsî Tomb, hans and the bedesten, and the nearby Bey Sokağı.
Its story
Sulusokak was the city's main trade axis in the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Along the street are the Ali Tûsî Tomb with tile mosaic, dated 1233–1234, the Yağıbasan Madrasa, the Takyeciler Mosque, the Deveciler Hanı and the Arastalı Bedesten, today the Tokat Museum. The nearby Bey Sokağı and Beyhamam Sokağı reflect the civil architecture of the late Ottoman and early Republican periods. It is the best starting point for combining the historic buildings on one walk.
