Tokat Museum (Arastalı Bedesten)
Merkez, Tokat
A free museum in the 9-domed Arastalı Bedesten, with a collection ranging from Hittite finds from Maşathöyük to a Qur'an from the Danishmendid period.
Its story
Founded in 1926 in the Gök Medrese, the museum moved in 2012 to the nine-domed Arastalı Bedesten from the Ottoman period. The collection spans the Late Chalcolithic to the Islamic period: Hittite artifacts from the Maşathöyük excavation, Roman bronzes, coins and one of the oldest known Qur'an manuscripts from the Danishmendid period stand out. The ethnography hall displays Tokat yazma (hand-printed textiles) and local objects. It can be visited together with the historic buildings on Sulusokak.
