Its story
The Botan Valley was declared a national park by a decision published in the Official Gazette on 15 August 2019; the area, spread across the Merkez, Tillo and Eruh districts, covers the deep canyons cut by the Botan Çayı (Uluçay) through limestone terrain. Rasıl Hacar, a few kilometers south of the city center, is the part of the park closest to Siirt and the most visited. Here are the Taşbaşı Cave, overlooking the river from a height of about 350 meters, a small window connecting two caves, a vertical rock called the 'jumping stone' and, right beside it, Delikli Taş (the Holed Stone). The caves are thought to have been used for shelter in the past. The viewing area has seating with gazebos; around the valley there are also a paragliding take-off point and old stone-paved paths such as the Akabe Yolu.
