Its story
The Tektek Mountains, rising between the Harran and Viranşehir plains, are a low plateau 60 km long made up of limestone layers. The 19,335-hectare national park, declared on 29 May 2007, stands out for its rich archaeological heritage as well as its natural steppe vegetation: the Roman-period Şuayb City, Soğmatar of the cult of the Moon god Sin, Senem Cave, the Han el-Ba'rur Caravanserai and Neolithic Karahantepe are within or around the park's boundaries. The park has no extensive visitor facilities of its own; a car tour between these ancient sites is the best way to get to know the area.
