Its story
The Bazda Caves, about 20 km east of Harran, consist of wide galleries carved into a limestone hill. In these quarries, from which stone was extracted for centuries for the buildings of Harran, Şuayb City and Han el-Ba'rur, open spaces, tunnels and galleries were formed; the thick rock pillars supporting the ceiling give the cave the look of an underground palace. Arabic inscriptions on the rocks show that the quarry was worked in the 13th century. Its cool interior can be visited even in the summer heat; it is suitable for a short break on the way to Han el-Ba'rur and Şuayb City.
