Kızılırmak Delta Bird Sanctuary

Its story
The delta, formed where the Kızılırmak reaches the sea, consists of lakes large and small, reed beds and dunes over an area of about 56,000 hectares. In 1998 it was declared a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention; part of it is a wildlife development area. Lagoon lakes such as Balık Gölü, Uzun Göl and Cernek Gölü host hundreds of bird species; the number of species given varies between sources. In the Bird Sanctuary section there is a visitor area and observation towers.
