Its story
The lake of the Suat Uğurlu Dam, built on the Yeşilırmak between 1975 and 1982, stretches right in front of the Ayvacık district center; the district lies between the Hasan Uğurlu and Suat Uğurlu dam lakes. Boat trips can be made between the villages on the two shores of the lake, and the lake is suitable for water sports such as canoeing, dragon boating and rowing; canoe races were held here in 2012. Kirazlık Island, formed from land left underwater, can be seen from the Çarşamba road and is visited by boat. The steel Eynel Bridge, built over the lake, connects neighborhoods left on either side of the flooded land. The plane, hornbeam and pine forests on the shore are popular for picnics; mirror carp and wels catfish live in the lake.
