Its story
Rize Museum is housed in a historic mansion in the city center, considered an example of 19th-century civil architecture. The building was constructed with the region's masonry stone and timber-infill technique and, with its roof covered in traditional Turkish tiles, reflects the character of traditional Rize houses. In the building, used as a museum since 1998, the basement is devoted to showcase displays and the upper floor to sections re-creating living spaces. The collection includes archaeological artifacts, coins from various periods, and ethnographic items such as weavings, clothing and household goods telling the story of local people's daily life. A short visit offers a good opportunity to see Eastern Black Sea residential architecture from the inside.
