Muş Museum (Atatürk City Museum)
Merkez, Muş
The provincial museum opened in 2021 in the former Atatürk Primary School building completed in 1938, with archaeology, ethnography and Battle of Malazgirt halls.
Its story
The museum opened to visitors in 2021 after the restoration of a historic building whose construction began in 1937 and was completed in 1938, and which was used for many years as a primary school; locally it is also called the Atatürk City Museum. The archaeology halls display works acquired through excavation, purchase and donation, from the Chalcolithic Age through the Bronze and Iron Ages, Urartian, Hellenistic, Roman, Eastern Roman, Seljuk and Ottoman periods. The ethnography hall contains Ottoman-period jewelry, belts, healing bowls, samovars and weapons. The Sultan Alparslan and Battle of Malazgirt hall tells the story of the 1071 battle with information panels and images. There is also an educational area for children. It is closed on Mondays; it is worth checking the hours before visiting.
