Lake Köyceğiz
Köyceğiz, Muğla
A 52 km² lake connected to the sea by the Dalyan channel, surrounded by sweetgum forests and orange groves.
Its story
Lake Köyceğiz is a barrier lake formed when a tectonic depression filled with water and its front was closed off by alluvium. With an area of about 52 km², it is among Türkiye's large lakes; its waters reach the sea via the Dalyan channel. It is fed by streams such as the Namnam Stream and Yuvarlakçay. The lakeside promenade of the town of Köyceğiz is well suited to walking and cycling; on its southern shore are sulfurous hot springs.
