Gemiler Island
Fethiye, Muğla
A historic island near Ölüdeniz with Byzantine-era churches and a long covered corridor.
Its story
Gemiler Island lies opposite Gemile bay, between Kayaköy and Ölüdeniz. On the island are churches, chapels and settlement remains dated to the 4th–6th centuries. Some researchers associate the island with the first burial place of St. Nicholas. The island and the bay opposite are a first-degree natural site; from the path up to the top of the island you can see the surrounding bays.
