Western Front Headquarters Museum
Akşehir, Konya
A historic building used as the Western Front Headquarters between November 1921 and August 1922, where the plans for the Great Offensive were prepared.
Its story
The two-story building was built in 1904–1905 as the Akşehir municipal building. After the Battle of Sakarya, the Western Front Headquarters moved to Akşehir on 18 November 1921 and settled in this building. For nine and a half months the preparations for the Great Offensive were directed from here; Mustafa Kemal Paşa also came many times to inspect the work. The building opened as a museum in 1966; the rooms re-create the documents, photographs, weapons and headquarters layout of the period.
