Ermenek Dam Lake
Ermenek, Karaman
The turquoise lake formed by the Ermenek Dam, one of Türkiye's highest dams; notable for its Nadire Canyon boat trip.
Its story
The double-curvature concrete arch dam on the Ermenek Çayı (a tributary of the Göksu), whose construction began in 2002, was Türkiye's highest dam at the time it was built, at about 210 meters; it began to hold water in 2009. The resulting lake is a turquoise expanse of water about 20 km long with a shoreline exceeding 60 km. The tour of about 9 km on the municipal boat, from Ambar Boğazı to the Nadire Bridge, passes between sheer cliffs up to 250 meters high. The viewpoints from Ermenek overlooking the lake are very beautiful at sunset.
