Village and rural life
Şirince
Selçuk, İzmir
A historic village in the hills above Selçuk, known for its stone and timber houses, fruit wines and olive groves.
Its story
Before 1923 Şirince was a mountain village inhabited by a Greek (Rum) population; after the population exchange, immigrants from around Thessaloniki and Kavala settled here. Whitewashed stone houses stepped up the slope, narrow cobbled streets and two old churches make up the village's fabric. The village is known for its fruit wines, olive oil and handmade soaps. It can be very crowded on weekends and in summer; the early morning hours are calmer.
