Its story
The Uşakizade Mansion, thought to have been built in the 1860s, was the summer house of Latife Hanım's family. Atatürk's mother, Zübeyde Hanım, came to İzmir in December 1922, spent her last days in this mansion and died here. Used for many years as a courthouse and a tutoring school, the building was expropriated and restored by Karşıyaka Municipality in 2005, opened as a memorial house in 2008 and registered as a private museum in 2016. The two-story late Ottoman building displayed period items and wax figures of Atatürk, Latife Hanım and Zübeyde Hanım. Because it was damaged in the earthquake of October 30, 2020, the mansion was closed to visitors and taken in for strengthening work.
