Kemeraltı Bazaar
Konak, İzmir
İzmir's historic bazaar stretching from Konak to the foot of Kadifekale, with hans, mosques, synagogues and craftsmen's streets.
Its story
Kemeraltı is a bazaar that grew up over the old inner harbor, filled in during the Ottoman period, and has been the city's commercial center for centuries. In its narrow streets, buildings such as Kızlarağası Han, Hisar Mosque, Başdurak Mosque and historic synagogues stand side by side. Coppersmiths, jewelers, herbalists and haberdashers still work in the old way. Tasting İzmir specialties such as boyoz, lokma, şambali and Turkish coffee in the bazaar is also part of the visit.
