İzmir Ethnography Museum
Konak, İzmir
A museum in a former hospital building bringing to life İzmir's customs, traditions and crafts.
Its story
The museum is housed in a neoclassical stone building constructed in the 19th century as the Saint Roch Hospital. Its halls use reconstructions to present İzmir wedding traditions, zeybek costumes and crafts such as felt-making, clog-making and coppersmithing. There are also sections with a room from an old İzmir house and on evil-eye bead making. As it is opposite the Archaeology Museum, it can be seen on the same visit.
