Its story
Ram-headed gravestones are the product of a tradition dated to the Karakoyunlu period, seen in almost all the old cemeteries of the Iğdır Plain. In this tradition, which comes from Central Asian Turkish culture, stones in the shape of a ram or sheep were erected for people known for their bravery and for those who died young. In the open-air museum in the Karakoyunlu district these stones are displayed together; the decoration and inscriptions on the stone figures can be examined up close. As few examples have survived at the foot of Mount Ağrı, the stones are protected. It is a short but original stop on the history of the plain.
