Its story
Karaca Cave is about 17 km from central Gümüşhane, near the village of Cebeli attached to Torul, at an altitude of 1,550 meters. It was found in 1983 by the geologist Şükrü Eroz and opened to visitors in 1996. The cave, extending about 105 meters from the entrance to its farthest point, consists of four elliptical halls joined horizontally; the average ceiling height reaches 18 meters. Inside you see stalactites and stalagmites, columns, travertine pools and terraces, curtain- and flag-shaped dripstones, cave flowers and cave pearls. Water seeping through cracks in the ceiling keeps the formations growing. The cave air is also said to be good for respiratory complaints.
