Its story
Odunpazarı is Eskişehir's old residential area from the Ottoman period; it takes its name from the wood market (odun pazarı) once held here. The two- and three-story houses lining the sloping streets were built with a timber frame and mud-brick infill technique, and project over the street with the bay windows (cumba) on their upper floors. Most of the houses in the area have been restored by the municipality; many are used today as museums, galleries, workshops and cafés. The historic city center was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 2012. The Kurşunlu Complex, the Alaaddin Mosque and many small museums are within walking distance in this fabric.
