Anadolu University Museum of Republican History
Odunpazarı, Eskişehir
A museum of the National Struggle and Republican era in the building designed by Mimar Kemalettin in 1915–1916 as the Turan Numune Mektebi.
Its story
The museum building was built in 1915–1916 as the Turan Numune Mektebi (Turan Model School) by Mimar Kemalettin, a leading figure of the First National Architectural Period, and was used for many years as a high school building. Anadolu University restored the building and opened it as a museum on 23 April 1994. The ground floor displays photographs from Gallipoli to the Great Offensive, ship models and an oxcart; the upper floor displays Atatürk's belongings and local newspapers from 1925–1980. Its showy three-story facade makes a fine contrast with the wooden houses of Odunpazarı. It is right next to Atatürk High School.
